Cyberpunk 2077 update 2.5 is out. CD PROJEKT RED released the free Edgerunners 2 Update on October 22, 2026, for PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Nintendo Switch 2 owners get it later, which is the closest this patch comes to making anyone wait for anything.
The anime-inspired content gets the headlines, but the real reinstall case is more practical: a dual-wielding build, two new side quests, and cross-platform mod support. CD PROJEKT reported more than 35 million copies sold by November 2025, so plenty of players could use a reason to come back.
TL;DR: Cyberpunk 2077’s free Update 2.5, the Edgerunners 2 Update, is out now on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with Nintendo Switch 2 to follow later. It’s a strong reason to return, especially for dual-wielding pistols, reskinnable cyberware, two side quests unlocked after The Heist, and curated mod support. Console players should note that modded saves can’t earn trophies or achievements.
Edgerunners 2 Update Lands Free on Most Platforms
Players on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S can download it now. Nintendo Switch 2 is getting it too, but later.
The patch takes its name from Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2, the anime follow-up to the original Edgerunners series. That tie explains the anime-inspired additions, which show up as a mix of new content and touches that fans of the show will recognize. Free is the easiest sell in gaming, but the bigger question is who this patch is for. Returning players are the audience it most needs to win back, and anyone who walked away from Night City after launch now has a reason to check it out again.
Two New Side Quests Give Night City a Reason to Revisit

The two headline side quests are the strongest reason to reinstall, but they come with a catch: you have to reach the right point in the story first.
Clampdown is the one to chase. It opens after you finish The Heist, then you need to complete two gigs for Wakako and sit tight until she messages you. Waiting for a text is a strange way to design a quest, but the payoff is a five-piece gear set based on King, which makes the wait easier to forgive.
Welcome to Paradise is the lighter option. It also unlocks after The Heist, but you need to hit level 15 Street Cred as well. Once you do, you get a Night City tour narrated by Richard Night. It’s the closest the update comes to a sightseeing trip, and after years of the same streets, it’s a fun way to look at the city again.
Returning players should check their saves before getting excited. If you haven’t reached The Heist, both quests stay locked, no matter how much Street Cred you have. Load a save past that point and your to-do list gets much longer.
Dual Wielding Pistols and Cyberware Skins Change the Build Game
Dual wielding is the mechanical headline, and it’s a good one. The Double Trouble perk, along with four auxiliary perks, lets you carry Power-category pistols and revolvers in both hands. Two big guns, zero excuses for looking like you’re short on ammo or imagination.
Cyberware gets the quieter upgrade. Mantis Blades, Gorilla Arms, Monowire, and Projectile Launch System can now be recolored and reskinned at five Glamdocs. Each Glamdoc has its own shop, its own introductory scene, and its own cyberware-skin catalog, so the tour takes longer than a quick menu tweak.
Is it worth reinstalling for? If you already run a cyberware-heavy build, yes. You’ve spent hours tuning your character to hit just right, and now you can make those arms and blades look like they belong to you. Cosmetics are easy to dismiss until you’ve stared at the same default chrome for an entire playthrough.
Players who skipped the cyberware route won’t feel the same pull. These skins reward people already invested in the build, which is exactly why they’re the update’s best-kept secret.
Mod Support Arrives With a Console Catch

Mod support is the update’s sleeper feature, and it comes with fine print. Update 2.5 adds cross-platform mod support powered by mod.io, so you can browse and install player-created mods straight from the game menu on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 5 Pro, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Don’t expect the whole mod catalog, though. The selection is curated, so you get a hand-picked slice of what the community has made, not everything on offer. For a game this big, that’s a reasonable filter, even if it means some of your favorite creations won’t show up.
Now the catch. On consoles, achievements and trophies cannot be earned from a modded save file. Congratulations, console players: you can now choose between mods and your trophy list. Truly, the golden age of choice.
If you’re a PlayStation or Xbox player who wants a clean trophy run, keep a vanilla save for that. Mod in a separate file, and don’t mix the two.
Graphics Tweaks, Tarot Cards and Smaller Fixes Round Out the Patch
Update 2.5 adds DLSS 4.5 support, including up to 6X Multi Frame Generation or Dynamic Multi Frame Generation. FSR 2.1, FSR 4, and FSR 3.1 Frame Generation stay, but FSR 3 upscaling is gone. If your settings still point to it, switch before you launch.
Twelve Minor Arcana Tarot Cards are spread across Night City, and collecting all of them earns a special reward. Scavenger hunts are tedious until the prize is worth it, so the real test is whether that reward justifies the wandering.
The menu gets some overdue attention too:
- Load Game saves are grouped by playthrough, so your separate characters stop piling into one messy list.
- Apartment and vehicle stashes get filters, so you stop digging for one attachment.
- Consoles finally get a Field Of View slider, so you can adjust the view instead of accepting the default.
The update also adds HKGN 102.0 FM, a radio station playing selected tracks from the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners series. Driving around Night City with that soundtrack is an easy excuse to stay behind the wheel longer than you planned.
Whether Night City Is Worth Another Lap

Reinstall if you already run a cyberware build and your save has passed The Heist. Clampdown and Welcome to Paradise are worth the trip, Double Trouble finally lets you hold two big pistols, and the new skins make your chrome look like yours.
Wait if you live for trophies and want mods on console, because a modded save blocks achievements and trophies. Pick one.
Switch 2 owners have to wait for the later release, so that one is out of your hands for now.
Before you load up, check which playthrough you’re opening, since grouped saves make that easier. Then confirm your platform and keep your mod experiments out of the save you want for trophies.
Should You Reinstall Night City This Week
Start by opening Load Game and finding the save from your most recent playthrough. Grouped saves make that quick, so you won’t be digging through a pile of characters.
If that save is past The Heist, go see Wakako now. Clampdown’s wait for her message is the one part of this update you can’t speed up by playing harder. If the save is still before The Heist, finish that mission first and let both side quests wait in line.
Then decide what you’re after before you load anything else. Console players who want trophies should skip mods on that save entirely, because a modded save blocks achievements and trophies. PC players have no such trade-off, so the mod menu is the place to start experimenting.
