Planned Computer Build
Well, in my free time I've been making some computer builds and this is the one that I have decided to make (assuming I can afford it
):Case: LIAN LI ARMORSUIT PC-P50 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...811112240) Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EX58-UD5 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...813128362) CPU: Intel Core i7-860 Lynnfield 2.8GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...819115214) PSU: CORSAIR CMPSU-850TX 850W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...817139009) Memory: CORSAIR XMS3 12GB (6 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR3 @ 1600MHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...820145235) 2x 1TB HDD in RAID 1: WC Caviar Black 1TB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...822136284) 2TB Data HDD: WD Caviar Green 2TB (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...822136344) Video Cards: 2x MSI GeForce GTX 260 896MB DDR3 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...814127426) Plus peripherals like DVD Burner, Floppy dive plus card reader, fan controller, custom LED/CCFLs, monitors, speakers, TV Tuner, etc. The total finished cost will be just over $4000.00 so we'll see about that afording it caviot. If not, I've got a slimmed down system using a Core 2 Quad instead of the i7 that will run just over $1000... Let me know what you think/if you have any suggestions

RE: Planned Computer Build
That is a freakin beast man. I can't imagine what 12 gigs of memory would be like. I've been running 2 gigs on my desktop for 3 years now.

RE: Planned Computer Build
not going with a radeon 5000 series
? The 5870's beastly. Almost as powerful as the GTX 295, and it's only single chip. Looks like the case should have more than adequate circulation, and you should (hopefully) have enough hard drive space for a while. The case is kinda up there on price though. If you don't mind steel (and some amount of plastic ), I'd look at the Antec 902, Coolermaster HAF 922, Coolermaster CM Storm Sniper/Scout, and maybe the Antec P193. Airflow on all of them is also quite nice (i.e. one of them has 3 200 mm fans), and are little bit less expensive.

RE: Planned Computer Build
You should use this for your computer case: http://thecontaminated.com/r2d2-computer-case/
I would probably go with a Wall-E if I was going to spend that amount of time on something though. |

RE: Planned Computer Build
Well, as I read your post about the case, newegg discontinued the original case I had selected. So I could find it elsewhere, but decided to shop around a little from Lian Li. I want a lot of front bays because I'm looking to add several things there (Blu-ray, DVD, Floppy+card reader, Fan controller, System lighting controller, Logic State Analyzer so I can get into hardware stuff, etc.). So I figured I should explore Full tower cases (who cares if they won't fit under my desk...). The one I landed on was this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811129043 Does anyone here have experience with this case? Also, because I really want the +1 from kirtar, ideas on how to boost the cost to $4000? If/when I get the money to build it (possibly even before Christmas), I'll post pictures. P.S. Any idea where I could get the R2D2 case? |

RE: Planned Computer Build
Actually I think I was able to find the armorsuit case on newegg. I think what happened is that the product link changed (as is true with most of your links).
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...it&x=0&y=0 (the search) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6811112240 (result) Uhh as for the Antec 1200, if you're fine with a full tower, it's supposed to be somewhat nice. Be warned though that if it's important that there's a cutout on the motherboard tray for mounting the cooler easier, it's not there. I think cable management's alright on it (probably like the 902). Another random thing I ran across. http://techpowerup.com/107424/Noctua_Pre...oler.html. This beast of cooler has a dual radiators, 6 heat pipes, and two fans (one 120 mm and one 140 mm). Finally, http://www.desktopreview.com |

RE: Planned Computer Build
Haha thanks. My smaller scale build used the Core 2 Quad and all of the products for that kept being discontinued...
This was the CPU cooler I chose: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6835186134 I don't think it needs the cutout, but please correct me if I'm wrong (my only experience with building machines came from about 7 years ago...) And that cooler is intense. Would having two fans actually help though? There's no other places to draw air in, so it doesn't seem that the second fan would improve performance at all... Also, thanks for the site. I'd been using google/Tom's Hardware to find reviews and FrozenCPU/newegg for pricing... |
