Apple iPad
What do you guys think? I would have called it something like iTab or something. At $500 for the smallest version (16 gigs), I'd rather go with a beastier laptop. Anyways, It does set of my nerdar since it looks like something Picard would have in his lap as he leisurely sits at his chair with a cup of earl grey. |

RE: Apple iPad
They should have called it something else since there were jokes make about an "upcoming iTampon" if you get the gist.
As for the actual product, to me, the form factor is just an oversize iPod Touch. In addition, it is kind of like an e-reader combined with a mini computer. I would have liked a convertible notebook (the ones with swivel screens). |

RE: Apple iPad
I have no reason to buy one since I own a laptop and ipod touch, but I still really want one. I might wait til the next version when it will probably have a camera though.

RE: Apple iPad
I at least want to tinker with one for a bit. I do too much programming and gaming to use it as a computer replacement, but I could see it being useful as a household living room appliance that serves as a reference and reading tool.

RE: Apple iPad
I kinda want one too, but I can't really think of any justifiable reason why I should purchase one.

RE: Apple iPad
I'd let them go through a couple of versions first, from what I read about them, they have troubles with WiFi related things (interesting considering the success of the iPhone and iTouch). I don't know, I agree with Zach, I use a computer for things that are too intensive for something like this (at least at this point) to handle, so I would have no use for it...

RE: Apple iPad
Yeah, in a couple of iterations these things should be cheap and pretty solid. That's the downside to all those early-adopters out there. A guy in one of my classes used his in class and he said it was ok for reading along with the class notes but was terrible for actually trying to do anything productive. It's also funny seeing him try to find a comfortable way to sit it on his lap and still be able to comfortably read stuff on the screen.
