MyBB
:O
Herro! Feels good to be back,
Wasn't sure where to put this thread, but I was just curious (having not ever used MyBB in his web design days), what advantages does it have, from a technical aspect, compared to phpBB, SMF, and the liken?

-Danks,
A curious coding nerd

RE: MyBB
In my experience it leaves a much smaller footprint, has fewer bugs, has an small yet active community, has an awesome plugin system, and is lightning fast. Since I only have 300 megs of memory with this host, I try to conserve as much as I can while still retaining a good balance of functionality. I think for most pages it takes about 6 hundredths of a second to parse and uses a flat 2-3 megabytes for a large variance in traffic. I use it on http://runeattack.com too.

RE: MyBB
I haven't actually used it before, but it does look really nice. Like Zack said, smaller footprint = less used bandwidth => lower running costs. Also, there modifications system looks really nice. It's not as developed as phpBB (at least in terms of modifications), but it's on it's way and there are all the "useful" ones. If I get back into it, I probably will switch to MyBB. The modification community for phpBB does not like to encourage new people to make modifications with it's approximately 1-month long validation process and HUGE emphasis of formatting. The start of bureaucracy -.-

(P.S. the spell check for this board is incredible Tongue)

Bandwidth usage isn't a big deal to me (in terms of the hosting for our robotics site) because it's listed as such: x/Infinity. We run phpBB3 right now if I remember correctly.

RE: MyBB
Most sites will do fine on a shared hosting package, but I run a few now that require databases and I need a fair amount of control over what can and can't run since I have a few hosting clients now. In any case, I am loving this speed.
